Retrospectiva Al Metal Chileno

I have received today a copy of " Retrospectiva Al Metal Chileno", fundamental piece of information for a character like me, my name is Ignacio Orellana  and I was a drummer in a band called “Pirosaint” back in the ’88 which recorded its first demo tape at Recs Studios on ’91 and performed several times at “Sala Lautaro” before they closed it down, anyway; I am one of those few that lived Metal when it was against of the cultural and social current of our Country.

This book dedicated to the Chilean Metal is without a doubt is a key element that represents everything that people like me has worked and believed for through the years of growing, there has been tons of good memories that came back to my mind when I was reading it like the poster of show I went to or the images of artist I played with on the same stage.

I’ll start saying that the style and designed of it shows almost an its own original form the way that the fanzines were made back then “black and white, because all the photocopies and handmade production”… this detail adds a great value to this presentation cause you can see and feel almost the same way that it was back then. Every single one of those fanzines and magazines where the phonebook of the each metal head; without them we wouldn’t be talking about it today.

Well presented and complete introduction of the matter that will shows to someone that do not know about metal in Chile how the things were and how the things came along the way for all of us. Every chapter reflects those days with each story from the same artists.

The list of bands is very complete but like its author said on the very first pages of it there were going to be some bands that didn’t make it , for many reasons but the most important because those bands were unreachable at the time. So it was going to be almost impossible to have them all listed, my own band “Pirosaint” isn’t listed here but that do not gives any less value to this golden document, because what it represents and terms of achievements of all the people that lived on that time and period.

I am very happy to see my own life through these pages and just like Andres said in this book:

“We did what we believed it was right for the music we loved”.

Hoy he recibido una copia de el libro " Retrospectiva Al Metal Chileno", una pieza invaluable de informacion que a un personaje como yo le crea una felicidad sin descripcion, mi nombre es Ignacio Orellana y fui baterista de la banda “Pirosaint” una banda que comenzo por alla por el ‘88 y grabo en los studios Rec en ’91 el primer demo llamado “Atrocity Not Condign”, ademas se presento en la Sala Lautaro varias veces antes que la cerraran, en fin; fui uno de los muy pocos que vivieron el Metal cuando hiba contra la corriente cultural y social de nuestro pais. 

Este libro dedicado al Metal Chileno es sin duda un elemento clave que representa lo que todos nosotros hemos creido y luchado a lo largo de los nuestros anos de crecimiento, han sido muchos recuerdos los que se me vinieron a la momeria al ver estas imagenes de los afiches de conciertos a los cuales asisti y al ver fotos de aristas que conoci y tuve el placer de compartir escenario.

Partire diciendo que el estilo y diseno de este libro muestra casi en su forma original  como lo fueron sus primeros fanzines de la epoca “blanco y negro respectivo debido a que todo era echo a mano y todo era fotocopiado”… ese detalle le da aun mas valor a este documento que trata de mostrar lo que veiamos y consumiamos en ese entonces, atraves de cada uno de esos ejemplares caseros. Cada uno de ellos eran como la guia de telefonos del metalero lleno de bandas que nadie conocia y lleno de informaciones que aveces tenia uno o dos anos de vieja ya que todo era echo gota a gota.

Bastante  completo en la forma y planteamento lo que puede llevar a alguien que no conoce este tema a un nivel de presentacion e introduccion bastante cercano a como fueron en la realidad de las cosas, todos los capitulos son el reflejo de esos dias, con sus recuerdos e historias de los mismos artistas.

La lista de bandas es bastante completa pero como decia Andres en las primeras paginas del libro; hiban a faltar algunas bandas, ya que la lista era muy grande y para encontrar a todos los involucrados era casi imposible, es mas mi propia banda “Pirosaint” no se encuentra en este libro, algo triste para mi en lo personal, pero no le resta merito o valor a este documento, ni al logro que representa haber echo un libro dedicado a lo que todos en sus diferenentes situaciones trabajaron.

Estoy feliz de poder contemplar mi vida atraves de estas paginas y como dice en algun parrafo, “hicimos lo que  creimos correcto por amor a la musica que amamos”.
